In this lab, you will learn the basics of socket programming for TCP connections in Python: how to create
a socket, bind it to a specific address and port, as well as send and receive a HTTP packet. You will also
learn some basics of HTTP header format.
You will develop a web server that handles one HTTP request at a time. Your web server should accept
and parse the HTTP request, get the requested file from the server’s file system, create an HTTP response
message consisting of the requested file preceded by header lines, and then send the response directly to
the client. If the requested file is not present in the server, the server should send an HTTP “404 Not
Found” message back to the client.

SOLUTION:
After successfully editing the provided skeleton code located here
the initial editing and running of the module went smoothly once I switched computers. On a Win 7 64 bit laptop, there were directory conflicts among other issues. Other errors were continuously kicked back after a fresh install of Portable Python 2.7.3.1 and numerous edits from web search results. Switching to a Win 7 32 bit PC at work, the complete process from install to module running took less than five minutes. The web server was up and running on the designated port 9876 and ready to serve.
Using a modified form of Google Chrome (by modified, I mean I had installed extensions such as NotScripts that blocks scripts, Ghostery, & Firebug), the browser kept rejecting the server connection & throwing out Error 102 (net: ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED). The server would display a GET and parse the index.html file that the browser was trying to fetch, but would not be displayed in the browser. Switching to a plain version of IE with no modifications & exceptions yielded a good result, the web server worked perfectly, parsed the index.html file successfully and displayed the “Hello Buddy” message contained in the said file.
Accounting for different browsers on different OS and hosts seems to be a challenge for the rudimentary web server, but it accomplishes the set task fluidly once in a compatible browser, in this case, IE.
To successfully duplicate the process, the Python engine had to be re-initialized so as to run the module again and get the web server up and ready to serve again.
Interestingly enough, after rebooting the machine, I booted my module and once the server was running, attempted to use Chrome with the extensions disabled again. This time, I was successful.
Lastly, I tried to access a file that was not on the server, and print a “404 Not Found” error message.
